Faiza Rashid was one of the first Kurdish women to become a nurse practitioner in Tennessee. Her family fled the war in Iraq as Kurdish refugees and lived in refugee camps in Turkey for most of her childhood. In late 1990s, her family of two parents and 7 fellow siblings were resettled in Nashville, TN. At the age of 18 without any formal education, she learned English, obtained her GED while working full-time job to support her family. She successfully completed her nursing degree followed by her training as nurse practitioner.
Her journey is an inspiration to many of us and it is an extraordinary example of resilience and the American Dream. We believe that financial support and professional network can be beneficial to students with similar stories like Faiza.

Eligibility:
- Current or former female refugee or 1st generation refugee
- Pursuing undergraduate or graduate education in the medical field
- Complete scholarship application
- Complete Essay or volunteer for Amed Medical Foundation
- Can apply for up to the amount of $1000
- One scholarship per person
- 1-3 students will be selected based on applications.
- All applications are reviewed by Faiza and her team
